Australian Metaverse Project Earth 2 Showcases a Stunning Digital Twin of Our Planet

The metaverse concept is one that has been floating around for a while now, though pinning down exactly what it is and its potential has been a little fuzzy. Australian metaverse project Earth 2 presents a digital twin of our planet, free from man-made structures, ready for players and users to create and build on a scale that is definitely impressive.

This 30-minute video showcases real-time in-engine footage of the project, and really, it gives an impressive showing of just what the 'metaverse' can be. Similar in scope to Microsoft Flight Simulator, except that Earth 2 is being developed by a small team and as of now is all about creating a virtual world, where you buy land, build, trade, and do stuff.

ABOUT EARTH 2

Earth 2 is the Geolocational Metaverse meaning that any place you stand in the real world is digitally represented inside of Earth 2. We are building a 1:1 scale digital replication of the Earth in a pristine state with the removal of man made artifacts. We are one of the most successful startups in history and have grown into the biggest Virtual Land Registry in the world with over 100 million 19x19m tiles sold.

At Earth 2, we think of the Metaverse as a Massive-Open-Seamless-World that people can instinctively relate to through their perception of what exists and what is real around them. Something that can, under the right circumstances, evolve into a new of metaphysical existence and cement its place in the history of the internet’s technical evolution.

With the entire planet there to explore it's already the largest Virtual Land Registry in the world, where apparently hundreds of thousands already own land. The video above gives a few glimpses of potential mega-cities, and they do look cool. As for the idea that this is a game, apart from driving and socialising it's a little bare - but hey, it's still early days for Earth 2.
