Battlefield 2042 Was Originally Meant to Have Fire Tornadoes, Tsunamis, and Volcano Eruptions – Rumour

Battlefield 2042 launched in very rough shape, even by the series’ generally low standards for launch, and though it seems like it’s gotten off to a solid start where sales are concerned, reception from critics and audiences alike has been alarmingly low. DICE, of course, is working on fixing some of the game’s biggest issues, but recent reports have brought to light the various hurdles the multiplayer shooter faced during development, which ended up resulting in several features and ideas being cut out during production.

Another one of those features has seemingly emerged as well. Journalist and noted insider Tom Henderson recently took to Twitter and stated that as per a presentation for Battlefield 2042 from Summer 2020, the shooter was originally going to have a variety of extreme weather and environmental mechanics- including earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and fire tornadoes.

Ultimately, due to the lack of time and development constraints, DICE had to end up cutting all of that out, and ended up focusing exclusively on the twisters that are currently found in the game. The underwhelming destruction and extreme weather mechanics in Battlefield 2042 have been a sticking point for a number of players, so this should come as particularly disappointing news.

Meanwhile, Henderson also claims that due to the post-launch mess that Battlefield 2042 finds itself in and with DICE being focused first and foremost on fixing the many issues the game has launched with, post-launch plans for the game are “completely ****ed”- though of course, it remains to be seen what exactly that indicates, especially in the absence of any official word from DICE or EA.

While the future of Battlefield 2042 is looking a little murky right now (though it does seem like season 1 is going to kick off in March), EA does have big plans for the future of the series, having recently announced plans to shift to a multi-studio development model for Battlefield. Leaks have also suggested that the next Battlefield game is going to be a hero shooter.
