Blizzard Working on “Unannounced FPS PvP Project”

Between Overwatch 2, Diablo 4, Diablo Immortal and a new triple-A survival title coming to PC and consoles, Blizzard Entertainment has quite a lot on its plate. However, it seems to have some unannounced projects in the works, like an unannounced first-person shooter focused on PvP.

Faizan Shaikh on Twitter discovered the LinkedIn profile for Kristopher Howl who works as a lead/principal game designer at Blizzard. Along with being a principal game designer on Overwatch 2, Howl has been working on an “unannounced FPS PvP project” for over three years with the process involving management for combat, UX, level and systems design. New “level building technology” along with hiring, “aligning teams on the vision of the project” and designing gameplay systems.

A few potential candidates for this unannounced project come to mind, like a potential mobile version of Overwatch. It could be the cancelled StarCraft FPS project “Ares” which was described as “Battlefield in the StarCraft universe” and had players as Terran Marines fighting the Zerg. Reports of the project’s cancellation emerged in June 2019 so it’s unlikely.

How far along this new project is remains to be seen. Stay tuned for any potential details in the coming months.
