Play as one of the restless dead in Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife, coming early 2021

Hi, my name is Erik Odeldahl and I am the Creative Director at VR games developer Fast Travel Games.

What if monsters were real? Imagine playing a character stuck between this life and the next, with supernatural powers allowing you to walk through solid walls or manipulate objects from a distance, trying to unravel the mystery of your own death inside a modern mansion filled with other, ill-natured spirits… Soon you will be able to experience this and much more, as you become one of these restless dead in our upcoming horror game Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife, available for PlayStation VR early 2021!

After developing our previous two PS VR titles (action/adventure Apex Construct and miniature world puzzler The Curious Tale of the Stolen Pets) we decided to try something a little darker for our next game. Using our studio’s experience in VR storytelling, world-building and our state-of-the-art interactions model, we are now creating a highly tense horror game within the World of Darkness: a modern fantasy horror universe where you are the monster. This universe contains known brands like Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf: The Apocalypse, but in addition to these monsters there is also a certain kind called Wraiths…

Playing as a Wraith, you will explore the massive Barclay Mansion to gradually reveal its terrifying history, and the reason behind your own death. Set against a backdrop of modern Hollywood decadence and occult research, the mansion is filled with apparitions and sinister Spectres trailing your footsteps, each with its own background story and with a connection to the bigger mystery. To stay hidden and uncover the truth, you will need to be stealthy and use objects to hunt for clues in the world around them. You are accompanied by your Shadow, a manifestation of your dark subconscious who is sort of your guide throughout the game. Can you trust everything he says? Well, that’s for you to find out! And so you know, the story is completely standalone and no previous experience with the World of Darkness is needed to fully enjoy the game.

As you progress through the mansion, your supernatural powers will grow, granting you access to new areas:

  • Wraithgrasp: Allows you to manipulate objects from a distance and change the environment around you.
  • Sharpened Senses: Helps you pick up distant whispers or track the movement of other spirits.
  • Insubstantiality: Gives you the power to walk through solid walls.

We have just released our first trailer for Afterlife, which shows some of the horrors that await you inside the mansion. Even though many of us at the studio consider ourselves to be fans of the horror genre, some have had great troubles handling the tension in the game to even make it through playtesting sessions! So now the question is; will you have what it takes to enter the afterlife world called Shadowlands, and solve the mystery that lies deep within the rotten heart of the Barclay Mansion…?

If so, we hope to see you in the world beyond the Shroud in the beginning of 2021!
