Sony has released its latest Q2 FY2020 financial results for the period ending September 30th 2020. It confirmed that lifetime worldwide shipments for the PS4 had totaled 113.8 million. In this three-month period, 1.5 million consoles had been shipped – the same quarter from last year saw 2.8 million consoles shipped.

It’s still impressive though, especially with the PlayStation 5 right around the corner. PlayStation Plus subscriber numbers are also on the rise – as of September 30th 2020, the total number sits at 45.9 million, up by 9 million from the previous year. Software sales also totaled 80.9 million units, up 10.3 million compared to last year.

Of the total software sold, first-party titles constituted 12.4 million units sold, up from 6.3 million sold year-over-year (no doubt due to titles like The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima being huge successes). Digital downloads constituted 59 percent of total sales, up by 45 percent. As for the PS5, the company’s success should continue especially with Sony’s Jim Ryan stating that the number of PS5 units pre-sold in the first 12 hours was more than the number sold in the PS4’s first 12 weeks. Stay tuned for more details especially with the console out on November 12th.
