PS5 Crosses 10 Million Consoles Sold Globally

Sony has announced a new milestone for PlayStation 5 sales. The ninth-generation console has sold over 10 million units globally as of July 18th 2021. SVP global head of business operations Veronica Rogers says that this makes it “the fastest-selling console in the history of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE).”

Rogers noted that everyone at the company had “put their all” into improving the PlayStation experience, crediting the Product Development team for its work on the SSD, 3D audio and DualSense along with PlayStation Studios for showcasing “the capabilities of PS5.” The Hardware Engineering and Operations team was also noted as vital in “providing the resources to build the physical PS5 units” while the Business Operations teams worldwide helped deliver the console to customers.

The last major milestone was confirmed in April 2021 with over 7.8 million PS5 consoles shipped worldwide. Sony forecast 14.8 million units sold within the next financial year, which means it’s well on track to hit that target (along with making fiscal year 2022 the strongest ever for a PlayStation console). Stay tuned for more details and updates on its sales in the coming months especially with titles like Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Deathloop and Horizon Forbidden West still to come.
