Bad Idea Returns With Seven New Titles

A year after announcing they were “shutting down,” ultra exclusive, publicity stunt-loving publisher Bad Idea have unveiled seven new comic book titles debuting this winter, in what the company is calling ‘Bad Idea Two: Part One.’ Plot details were scant for each comic, but they will consist of:

– “Escape From Wyoming,” a comedic sci-fi western involving time travel from writer Robert Venditti and artist Jorge Monlongo. The comic will be released in three, 48-page issues, beginning November 2.

– “Orc Island,” a dark fantasy adventure by writer Joshua Dysart, artist Alberto Ponticelli, and colorist Matt Hollingsworth. A weekly series beginning November 2, the series will consist of four, 48-page issues, each retailing for $7.99.

– “They’re All Terrible,” a sexy, gory fantasy adventure by writer Matt Kindt, artist Ramon Villalobos, and colorist Tamra Bonvillain. The bimonthly series, consisting of four issues in two parts, begins December 14, and will retail for $7.99 at 32 pages an issue.

– “Werewolf x Society of Fearless Frontiersmen,” a 64-page, survival horror one-shot consisting of two stories: ‘Werewolf’ by Peter Milligan and Robert Gill, and ‘Society of Fearless Frontiersmen’ by Robert Venditti and Tomas Giorello. It will be released for $9.99 on December 21.

– “Burning Man,” an choose-your-own-adventure horror story about an extremely unlucky individual, by Peter Milligan and Juan José Ryp. The 40-page comic — which Bad Idea teases could be the first of many — will be released for $9.99 on December 28.

– “The Ends,” a romantic thriller set during wartime by writer/artist David Lapham and co-writer Maria Lapham. The three-part, black-and-white series will be released weekly beginning January 11, 2023, with each 40-page issue retailing for $7.99.

– “The Finder,” an espionage horror one-shot about a mad scientist’s castle, by writer Christos Gage, artist Tomas Giorello, and colorist Diego Rodriguez. It will retail at 40 pages for $7.99 on February 1, 2023.

Each comic will have ‘Bad Idea B-Side’ back-up stories. All of the titles were already made available to reserve as part of a blind pre-order event on Wednesday; you can find out which comic book stores in the United States, Canada, UK, Australia, Greece and Germany will stock the new titles here.

Founded in 2019 by former Valiant management Dinesh Shamdasani, Warren Simons, and Hunter Gorinson, Bad Idea set out to do things differently from other publishers by only selling titles to a trusted number of retailers, and staging a series of eccentric publicity stunts playing on their name. Since “shutting down,” Gorinson has left the company for BOOM! Studios, while the company released a comic as part of a donut sale. In the run-up to their official return, they released a comic in the latest edition of Previews magazine (issue #408), written by Mark Waid with art by David Lapham, which you can read a preview of here.

It is unknown when Bad Idea will reveal ‘Part Two’ of their new slate of titles, although they told readers to expect more news from New York Comic Con at the start of October.
